It all started in 2020 during the height of the pandemic. Cannabis had just become recreationally legal in the state of Illinois, and many promises had been made regarding social equity. Promises that were supposed to neutralize the impacts that the “War On Drugs” had on black and brown communities. Back in 2019, our founder, Billy, decided that he too wanted to take part in the green rush, but more importantly, he wanted to assist the communities devastated by these archaic laws. He was ecstatic that the state of Illinois had pledged to do the right thing until he realized that this was all empty rhetoric. So Billy, a project manager and activist, decided to take matters into his own hands. Billy named the company STRANGEFRUIT, a commemoration to the late, great Billie Holiday and her groundbreaking song. The rest is history, well, not really because STRANGEFRUIT is an ever-evolving brand determined to become a household name.
